XML TO PDF

The XCS eiConsole Offers Transformation between an XML Document and a PDF Document Through an Interim XSLT Transformation and the Operation of a Processor

Transformation between an XML document and a PDF document is accomplished through two steps: first, the use of an XSLT transformation (using the XSLT Transformation Module) to convert the XML document to an intermediate description format, and then, the operation of a Processor to render that description into PDF form. As with all the components of the eiConsole the user is presented with a graphical interface with easy to configure panels.

The first step, the XSLT transformation, utilizes the "XSLFO" format.

The XSLFO format describes the desired PDF in terms of layout and positioning, allowing the actual rendering to be consistent and well-controlled by the user. Once converted, the XSLFO XML document is passed to the "FOP Processor," which is a wrapper for the Apache FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) library.
